Fondriest est la marque “racing” qui a rejoint le groupe en 2006, contribuant à un net changement de mentalité au sein de Cicli Esperia.
Nous assistons en effet à une augmentation significative de la sensibilité stratégique liée à la production et à la commercialisation de vélos haut de gamme.
Cela nous a permis de concentrer une partie de nos ressources sur la création de cadres et de vélos à haute performance, dédiés aux athlètes et aux passionnés de deux roues les plus exigeants.
Maurizio Fondriest est né à Cles (Trente), au cœur de la Val di Non, le 15 janvier 1965. Au cours de ses douze saisons en tant que professionnel, son palmarès compte 69 victoires en courses sur route. Vainqueur d’un Championnat du Monde à seulement 23 ans, il remporte à deux reprises la Coupe du Monde de cyclisme en ’91 et en ’93, domine la légendaire Milan-San Remo en 1993 et obtient une série impressionnante de succès tout au long de sa carrière professionnelle, tant dans les Classiques que dans les étapes du Giro d’Italia et du Tour de France. Aujourd’hui, comme alors, il reste avant tout un grand passionné du sport à pédale. Minutieux et méticuleux dans les aspects techniques du vélo, son attention au détail pour obtenir la position de conduite “parfaite” est légendaire. Après une carrière professionnelle dédiée au sport, il met les valeurs familiales au premier plan, mais la vie d’un grand champion doit également trouver une continuité dans le futur. Pour cette raison, Maurizio suit aujourd’hui de nombreux jeunes cyclistes qui approchent le monde du cyclisme pour leur transmettre sa vaste richesse de conseils et d’expériences grâce à son exemple extraordinaire. Depuis qu’il a commencé à mettre son nom sur les premiers cadres, il a compris que chaque détail du vélo devait refléter sa personnalité et son professionnalisme. Au fil des ans, il a enregistré de nombreux brevets parce qu’il a toujours cru en la recherche et au développement, et chaque idée concrétisée est un nouveau défi qui l’attend.
Après de nombreuses victoires chez les Amateurs et après avoir dominé le Giro delle Regioni en 1986, Maurizio Fondriest commence sa carrière professionnelle avec le maillot d’Ecoflam sous la direction de Giuseppe Martinelli.
L’année 1988 marque l’apogée de la carrière de Maurizio Fondriest avec la victoire au Championnat du Monde à Renaix, en Belgique. À seulement 23 ans, Maurizio remporte également une étape de Tirreno-Adriatico et finit deuxième à Milan-San Remo.
C’est l’année des records avec 25 succès : Milan-San Remo et Flèche Wallonne, en plus du GP de Zurich, une étape du Giro, la victoire finale du Giro del Trentino, Tirreno-Adriatico, Grand Prix du Midi Libre et Escalada a Montjuich..
En 1994, Maurizio Fondriest, avec l’équipe Lampre, est encore protagoniste d’une saison de haut niveau en remportant le Tour de Grande-Bretagne, 2 étapes et le Classement Général au Tour de Pologne, la Coupe Sabatini et le Tour du Latium.
Après 11 ans de professionnalisme, 9 participations aux Championnats du Monde, 4 Tours d’Italie, 4 Tours de France, 2 Tours d’Espagne, 36 participations aux “Classiques Monument” et 69 victoires, Maurizio Fondriest se retire après avoir couru sa dernière saison avec l’équipe Cofidis.
Après avoir quitté le professionnalisme, Maurizio Fondriest consacre toute son attention et son expérience à la construction de vélos, en fondant l’entreprise Fondriest Bici. En 2006, l’entreprise est acquise par le groupe Cicli Esperia.
A Champion and the Roads of Home
Maurizio Fondriest began cycling at the age of nine and became road cycling World Champion in 1988. However, his bond with Trentino goes far beyond the bike.
Today, he still rides the roads on which he grew up, rediscovering them in a different way. Autumn is one of his favourite times of year to get back in the saddle. He loves to ride among the fallen leaves, along quiet roads and surrounded by mountain landscapes, with time to stop, look around and reflect.
For Maurizio, cycling in Trentino is also a way of reconnecting with himself and with the place he calls home.
